TRUMP LIES

In this political analysis by Philip Bump “Trump’s arguments about the wall are mostly exaggerated or false” is about Trump's push for the wall on the border of Mexico. Bump argues that you should not believe what Trump is saying is true by Trump's statement “Need to stop Drugs, Human Trafficking, Gang Members & Criminals from coming into our Country,” Bump gives statistics and surveys to help support why that statement is not entirely true for each of the following stated above. I agree with Bump in the uselessness of a wall being built for the sole purpose to leave out immigrants but I feel like it is more than that, which Bump fails to state clearly and misses the point. The author believes people are perplexed by the weird obsession people have to build a wall for border security but that is not the issue. The real issue is demographic changes. The wall can be seen as a psychological barrier than a physical one. It comes from fears of racist and whites losing their majority as America becomes a non-white nation. That is why the “wall” is so appealing to them. But instead in the article it only talks about the physical cons.
Bump also mentions Trump believes all terrorists are from Mexico when none of the bombing or the earlier World Trade Center bombing came in through Mexico. And most of our other big terrorists are homegrown like Timmy McVeigh (Oklahoma City) or the las Vegas shooter.
The author is trying to inform people about the reasons why a wall is unnecessary and what Trump says is misinforming, while also giving out statistical facts to prove to those who blindly agree with everything Trump says.

  1. In response to JihanBack (GiGi’s) commentary of “Trump Lies” I totally agree with you that the real issue is Demographic changes! Statistically the Hispanic population will overrule this country’s population in the near future. Census Bureau’s projections show that the Hispanic population is expected to grow by 86% between 2015 and 2050. This statistics terrifies those in political power because they do not want to lose their supremacy. Trump’s comments that a wall on the Mexico Border is necessary to stop “Drugs, Human Trafficking, Gang Members & Criminals are exaggerated and lies. He, along with other single-minded individuals feel that all the immigrants that come here are of one or more of the aforementioned criminal stereotypes. Whereas, in actuality only a small percentage are criminals. The majority are women, children, fathers, sons, aunts & uncles, just trying to come here to flee the escalating violence and crimes in their own country. They are trying to make a better place for themselves and their families.
